Food waste is a significant part of the solid waste stream in the US, and one that is more readily addressed than other, thornier problems. LWV US's Climate Interest Group has developed a tool kit that local Leagues can use to develop their own action plans for reducing food waste. The document is part of this post - scroll down to download it. This would be an excellent project for a League looking to expand their environmental work!
Membership in the Climate Interest Group is open to all LWV members. The CIG has ten teams that are organized around ten topic areas - you can link to these teams from the CIG website. The teams meet monthly by Zoom, sharing information on research and events linked to their topic. The LWV UMRR Annual Meeting will feature a talk by the head of the Water topic area - Joy Guscott-Mueller from LWV Lake Forest/Lake Bluff (IL). The Annual Meeting will be on May 22, starting at 6pm. Read more about it at this link!
