Early Morning Special Events
Saturday, May 6 - Bird Walk with Dan Jackson
Saturday morning, May 6 - join local birder Dan Jackson, Coulee Region Audubon Society, for an early morning bird walk before the conference. The spring migration will be underway... lots of birds make the Mississippi River valley their home and many more pass through on their way to their summer homes. The walk will be easy and casual. Bring camera and binoculars, and be ready to see birds and learn about their ways. Meet at 6:30am - at Myrick Park, 2000 La Crosse St. Free.
This is an IMBD event - International Migratory Bird Day. The Coulee Region Audubon works with WisCorps, the US Geological Service and the US Fish and Wildlife Service to put on an IMBD event at Myrick park each year. The bird walks will start at the base of the main trail into the Myrick Marsh, which is located about 100 yards east of the Myrick Park visitor center. Birders of all skill levels are welcome and encouraged to attend either trip. The tour usually does a loop trail that takes 1-1/2 to 2 hours to complete. People may leave the tour early to get to the Lunda Center on time for the UMRR Annual Meeting - it's just a six-minute drive. There will also be a bird walk at 10am as well as bird banding and other bird-related activities if you have others in your party who won't be attending the meeting.

Sunday, May 7 - Interested in historical river boats?
The Julia Belle Swain is making progress to an amazing restoration. In early May, we will have a guided and free tour of the Julia Belle, arranged by Al Trapp. He and other lovers of this project are awaiting the day that the boat passes all of her Coast Guard requirements and becomes river worthy again. Until then, they are proudly opening this project to us. Sunday, May 7, 2017. 10 AM Free.
