STATEMENT FROM LWVMN ABOUT AG PAM BONDI'S LETTER TO GOVERNOR WALZ
The League of Women Voters of Minnesota strongly opposes U.S. Attorney General Pam Bondi’s demand that Minnesota turn over its voter registration data as a condition for federal cooperation particularly while this issue is the subject of ongoing litigation. LWVMN is a party to USA v. Simon, a case directly concerning the protection of Minnesota voters’ rights and the integrity of our elections. We will continue to defend Minnesota’s election systems, voter privacy, and the fundamental principle that participation in democracy must never be used as leverage or retaliation. Minnesota’s elections are safe and secure. As part of the state’s 2024 post-election review, which over 150 League-trained volunteers participated in observing, found that counties conducted the reviews in a transparent manner and that hand counts were virtually identical to machine tabulation. See our report here. Minnesota’s voter file contains sensitive, private information protected by state and federal law. Protecting voter data is essential to public trust in elections. Minnesota voters deserve assurance that their personal information will not be weaponized, exposed, or used to intimidate. LWVMN urges state leaders and the public to continue rejecting this unlawful and dangerous overreach and to stand firm in defense of voters and democracy. Comments are closed.
